WHAT SHALL WE DO, ALL OF US?
IN HIS DREAMS— in his world there are no words for remembrance, for there is none for oblivion.
BUT STILL— boys from dreams do not venture into reality to swear their love to even
the loveliest of lonely girls.

w-what?
uhm, well okay, i love you too U v U <3 .
Another chuckle threatened to escape his lips then. Sora wasn’t the only one with a carefree atmosphere about him; Kairi made Riku feel the same, too. Maybe this is why the two were so good for each other. “It’s just like you said that time; Sora’s completely hopeless without us. I don’t know about letting his attitude rub off on me, though. We’ve got enough people running around here with their heads in the clouds,” he said, gazing specifically over at Kairi with a teasing expression.
“Just a bit, huh?” Riku replied, amused. “Well, in that case… It’s the same for me. But, I’m sure you could never miss me like you’d miss Sora, huh?” he teased, poking her in the forehead as he made reference towards Sora and Kairi’s obvious attraction towards each other.
He was happy for his friends, really—genuinely happy—but there was still an edge of… loneliness in the thought, he supposed. Even Riku couldn’t abandon his own feelings, special feelings towards both Sora and Kairi, but he could most certainly live with them now. He wasn’t a kid anymore.
“Don’t think I didn’t catch that, mister!” Hands on her hips, the girl defiantly stands her ground before him, lips puckered into her now commonplace pout. “I’m not that bad, hmph.” Kairi pulls back to dramatically flip her hair over a shoulder, mouth trying to not break into a smile as she turns her face away from the boy.
The red-head glances back just in time to be prodded, eyes narrowing again with lips now upturn in a wicked grin as she begins to protest. Yet, her threats are caught in her throat as she processes Riku’s words. “H-huh?” Kairi’s brows knit together, opposing stance dropped. A faint rouge brushes across her cheekbones, but her mouth falls into a concerned frown as she goes silent before replying. “That’s not true. Silly, don’t joke about that…” Her gaze is cast away now, a weak smile trying to fight with the torn expression she can’t help but wear on her face.
“I’m just always sure you’re going to come back, Riku.
I’ve always been sure about that.” When the girl was left alone on the island’s that long year— her memories of Sora fleeting— belief in Riku’s return was all she had to hold on to, his existence and importance in her life the only solid ground beneath her feet at the time.
Riku couldn’t help but chuckle mirthfully at the redhead’s energy. It was, after all, one of the things he liked most about her. It was different from Sora’s kind, though, but difficult to explain… she was just Kairi. “I take it you’ve been bored, then,” he smiled, amused. “I guess he wouldn’t be Sora if he was easy to keep up with, though. That goofball…” he shook his head, smirking. “Must be nice to be so carefree.”
At Kairi’s question, Riku crossed his arms. “Depends. Have you missed me while you were off doing the same?”
“Correct.” With lips pulled into a neat smile, she gives another curt laugh while glancing sheepishly away. Stretching her arms above her, the girl rises on the tips of her shoes briefly before relaxing into a standing position again, gaze back on the silverette. “I try though. He can take care of himself… but sometimes he really does need someone to remind him to keep it together.” Kairi flashes him the set of small pearls in her mouth, “Still, maybe some of his carefree attitude could stand to rub off on you a little, don’t you think~?”
The red-head meets his defensive position with a facade of indifference, eyes wandering away with arched brows as she muses the thought. “Oh, I suppose soooo~. Just a bit.”
trinketprincess started following you
“Kairi.” Riku smiled warmly at his childhood friend that he’d always had a soft spot for. He just couldn’t help but smile in such a gentle, reassuring presence.
“How are you? Hope you’ve been keeping Sora in check for me when I’m not around.”
“Hey!” The red-head eagerly returned the boy’s smile with her own as she pulled up besides him.
“I’ve been fine, besides being just a little too unoccupied.” Kairi gives a shrug of her shoulders before chuckling, a hand nervously running through her hair. “O-oh, well, besides doing that of course! He’s just hard to keep up with sometimes.”
“What about you, hmm? Have you missed me while you’ve been off doing what I just don’t know~?”
No need to get so hostiiiiiiiile, Kairi. You’re crushing me. My expanding cardiac muscles ache from the very thought that someone as lovely as you just does not like me.
Anyway.
I don’t like to get defensive, but I will admit I’m perfectly capable of speaking without insulting, even though I’m sure I’ve never done such a thing, my dear! Insulting, that is. I’m just a really honest guy, y’see, and I feel that it’s important for you to know that you should invest in a push-up bra, is all. Your breasts are the perfect handful for an infant. But don’t worry, I still think they’re cute.
/pinches cheek.
Oh, if I just straight up didn’t like you… I wouldn’t bother.
I must be enjoying our bickering at the very least, lovely tasteful girl I am.
Sure it isn’t you, who doesn’t like me~?
Uh-huhhhhhh.
Right.
Hey, Lane, guess what?
As much as I can appreciate honesty… Honestly! I didn’t ask for your opinion on my breasts so once again thank you very much, but I think I’ll do just fine without the foam inserts.
Wouldn’t want to false advertise, you know?
….
/Punches roughly in the shoulder.
We really should see each other more considering we get along soooo wellllll~.
[ sora crossed his arms a little at that, leaning forward slightly as kairi leaned back as though to chastise her. ]
You’d better not tell him! If you did, it’d be endless “Sora’s short” jokes until the end of pretty much forever! If you keep quiet about it, I promise I’ll do something nice for you, ‘kay?
[ of course, it’s not as though sora had any idea exactly what to do for the auburn-haired girl, but his pride couldn’t afford to have kairi spill the beans! act first, think later… he’d have to come up with something good for her. at kairi’s teasing remarks, sora finds himself looking away, avoiding allowing kairi the satisfaction of getting to see his cheeks grow redder, oh boy. ]
I-It’s not distracting! I mean… I guess it’s just weird. [ he looks towards her again. ] Us growing up, that is. I always wanted to stay a kid forever, you know.
[ a laugh. ]
Pretty lame, huh?
(ooc: aaahh thank you!! and your kairi’s really fun <33)
Something nice, hmm?
/The girl muses briefly at the ‘bribe’ with a hand held up and slim digit thoughtfully pressed against her cheek, gaze softly wandering away then back around to Sora. She puckers her lips as if having to really consider if she should accept the boy’s offer, rolling the notion around and under her tongue before finally tucking it away with a wide smile into the corner pockets of her lips. It was just too tempting.
Sure, okay.
Don’t forget you owe me then~.
/Kairi’s grin only widens at the boy’s embarrassed show of turning away from her jesting. Shes so sure of the rouge on his cheeks even though she just can’t quite see it, though she tries stepping forward and leaning towards where Sora has shifted his expression away.
Weird..?
/He’s suddenly facing her again and the girl has to pull back as to not lose her balance, rocking back onto her heels as she straights up again. Her smile softly drops replaced by the habit of bottom lip being drawn between teeth, skin lightly bruising red before she finally releases it and speaks.
Well, on the outside maybe we’ve changed a bit, but as for the inside…
I told you to never change, huh?
/She echos the boy’s laugh, eyes dropping away before meekly meeting Sora’s again.
I’m sorry.
That was selfish of me.
I just can’t help remembering though… of all the times you’ve told me it was I who had changed— who was changing.
I wish I could make it stop. I don’t think it’s a “lame” wish…
I really did want that summer to last forever too, Sora.
how accurate huhuhu~.
